In early January, Tropical Cyclone Imogen crossed the coast at Karumba in the Gulf region bringing rain to inland Queensland. Lots of it! This was good news for many reasons but for our Rangers it was ‘heaven sent’ 😊! Fire management in remote Dry Tropics parks is challenging—access is very limited and some vegetation communities in the area (think spinifex!) are highly flammable! QPWS Rangers follow strict guidelines to deliver fire management programs … so when the rain fell and conditions were perfect, it was ‘all systems go’! Rangers safely and successfully implemented aerial burning across this vast remote landscape in mid-January. This will result in important landscape health outcomes and help protect these areas…
